Dementia Complexities, Webinar | April 25, 2017
10:00am to Noon
Click here for full details and registration.

Dementia is not a "normal" part of aging; a disease process causes dementia. This class will help you understand the complexities of dementia so you will be able to care for those with the disease. Awareness helps us to provide a higher standard of care, while enriching the quality of life of those affected by dementia.

It is important to understand the basics. In this webinar, we will discuss what causes dementia, who it affects, recommendations, and its impact on caregivers.

Addiction Among Elders, Pueblo | April 27, 2017
9:00am to Noon
Click here for full details and registration.

Statistics show that the number of older adults facing addictions is increasing in conjunction with the increase in population of those over the age of 55. While alcohol is a common focus when exploring addictions, research supports a growing epidemic of opioid abuse among all age groups, including the elderly.

Information will be presented from a growth and development perspective with a primary focus on addiction in the older adult.

Grief and Bereavement, Pueblo | April 27, 2017
1:00pm to 4:00pm
Click here for full details and registration.

As the population ages, caregivers are faced with unique challenges, including an expanded understanding of grief and bereavement. These emotions are given new definitions when considered in relation to a variety of losses that are encountered during life transitions--financial, physical and cognitive abilities, and changes in housing.

This presentation will focus on exploring loss from a variety of lenses, including from a growth and development and diversity-based perspective. The focus is primarily on the older adult, but, in order to understand grief and bereavement in this population, we must first understand the individuality and similarities in which people of all ages deal with grief and bereavement.
