free fair housing accessibility training

In June, CHFA teams up with Fair Housing Accessibility First and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development to present a free training on the design and construction requirements of the Fair Housing Act.

This is an essential training for architects, designers, developers, and those responsible for the compliance of your buildings.

The training will cover the Design and Construction Requirements of the Fair Housing Act, Technical Overview (Module 10), Strategies for Compliant Bathrooms (Module 6), and Accessible Routes (Module 7).

Lunch will be provided by Studio Completiva, along with a presentation of a commissioned ethnographic study of resident experiences in mixed-income housing developments. The study explores how the built environment contributes to a sense of well-being.

transitioning from incarceration

Recently the affordable housing industry has been challenged to take a new look at those with felonies and other criminal records. The complexity of reentry from incarceration has often been exacerbated by the very nature of prison life and culture, and further, by the challenges of finding safe, affordable, and available housing after release.

Join us to take a deeper look into these dynamics. We’ll discuss the impact of:
  • acute childhood experiences (ACEs)
  • substance abuse
  • mental health issues
  • the propensity to return to criminal conduct when under stress
We’ll ask, “Given these realities, how can professionals interact with returning citizens in effective ways?”
