chfa enews - multifamily loan compliance
December 13, 2018
Dear Multifamily Property Owners and Managers,

CHFA has received notice from HUD’s national headquarters in Washington D.C. that a multifamily owner/agent participating in the Project-Based Section 8 program has been the target of a malicious phishing attempt. Someone, portraying themselves as HUD staff, called the owner/agent and requested bank account and routing numbers, HUD User IDs, voucher amounts and other contract specific information. During the course of the exchange, the PBCA’s name and role with the multifamily housing program was divulged. When questioned by the owner, the person disconnected the call.

Please reach out to your staff at your earliest opportunity and advise them of these attempts, not to divulge any of this information and to promptly report the incident to CHFA, so that we may in turn notify HUD.

Please note, while CHFA is not aware of the specific property, PBCA entity, or state in which this occurred, we encourage everyone to remain diligent and to please notify us in the event of an occurrence.

Thank you for your assistance.

Brian Miller
Director, Asset Management
